VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES

Board of Directors:

Persons interested in service on The Performing Arts Center Board of Directors should contact our offices by calling (509) 665-9096 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

The Box Office:

Volunteers work in the box office in shifts during regular box office hours.  Shifts generally run from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm and 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm.  Evening and weekend show box office shifts are also available.  Some volunteers work one shift a week, while others elect to work two ore more.  Volunteers in the box office answer phones, sell tickets and work on various projects needed to keep the offices up and running.  Training is provided.  Familiarity with computers and interest in interacting with a wide variety of people are advantages. Knowledge of computer keyboarding is a must.

Ushering:

The ushering system at The Performing Arts Center is broken down into various levels.  The house manager and assistant house manager work directly with staff and volunteers to fill ushering spots for events.  Head ushers assist the house manager at the event, making sure everything is in place and ready to go, as well as doing usher tasks.  Ushers work the event, taking tickets, handing out programs, directing customers to their seats and answering general facility questions.  Each usher works with a head usher.  People interested in ushering at the PAC are given a facility tour and evacuation training. Once on the rotation, ushers are scheduled for events by the house manager.

Hospitality:

For PAC presented shows, performers are provided with meals and snacks.  Jobs in this category would include procuring food and drink and providing for delivery and set up of snack/meal tables.

Concessions/Merchandise:

Some performers sell merchandise prior to the show, during intermission and following the show.  The PAC provides volunteers to assist with these sales.  Concessions are also sometimes offered by the PAC, and could include the selling of wine, soft drinks or water.

Technical Volunteers:

From time to time the PAC requires a large number of volunteers willing to unload trucks, push roadcases, assemble scenery, assist with wardrobe, and other tasks associated with presenting bigger touring productions.  The day is typically long, and the work more strenuous than other volunteer positions, but the reward is in working directly with the touring production teams and casts.Persons interested in being a Technical volunteer should contact our Facilities Manager/Technical Director, Don Fox by calling (509) 665-9096 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Backstage:

Some opportunities arise when touring groups come in.  While some of them are technical in nature, other opportunities come up for people with organizational or other skills.

Festival of Trees:

From the planning stages, on to design and decorating, and then to the actual festival itself, Festival of Trees needs hundreds of volunteers for the annual November event.  Areas of volunteer opportunities include decorating of trees and the Gala Ballroom, setting up for the various Festival events, decorating mini trees and wreaths, and working on-site during the festival manning the admissions tables, the Festival of Trees store, etc.

Volunteer Points:

PAC volunteers may sign up to earn points toward future rental credits for the performing arts organization of their choice.  Points are earned according to the following schedule:

Ushers: 10 points earned per 4 hours worked
Box Office Volunteers: 11 points earned per 4 hours worked
Tech Volunteers: 12 points earned per 4 hours worked.
Event Hospitality Volunteers: 12 points earned per 4 hours worked.

Volunteers must declare up front the one organization that will benefit from their points.  Volunteers may only change their beneficiary organization at the change of the fiscal year.  Points will be recorded in the PAC office and may be used as credit toward their organization's future rental of the PAC.  For every 10 points earned, $10 will be credited against their organization's base rental, up to half of the total base rental or $1,800, which ever is less.
